The Eternal Ark: Fernando Pessoa and Posterity
2025 marks the 90 years after Fernando Pessoa’s death (30th November 1935). Casa Fernando Pessoa is highlight the occasion with a new temporary exhibition, “The Eternal Ark: Fernando Pessoa and Posterity”, which opens on 27 November.
Curated by Antonio Sáez Delgado with design and installation by Ilhas Studio, the exhibition offers a journey through the many ways in which the writer extends beyond his own existence.
The exhibition traces Pessoa’s “lives” after 1935 and offers a fresh perspective on the writer’s archive and posterity: from the biographies that reveal how the fascination with Pessoa continues to inspire new interpretations, to the process of editing his writings and the role of critics and editors in shaping his work, right through to the many translations and international receptions that have made the author a universal figure.
Visitors can handle books, watch film clips that transport them back in time, and take home posters or reproductions of Pessoa’s papers. A symbolic gesture that extends the author’s legacy and transforms each participant into a guardian of his work.
The exhibition will be open until 6th December 2026.
