Echoes from the Collection – Fernando Pessoa's Bedroom, I, II, III, by Manuel Amado
Tuesday to Sunday, 10.00–18.00
The exhibition is part of Casa Fernando Pessoa's tour
On display from 27 October 2026 to 7 February 2027
The Casa Fernando Pessoa preserves more than just memories: it houses a unique art collection, bringing together notable figures from the 1950s onwards, including works from various exhibitions held at the Casa since 1993.
The final work of the year to emerge from storage into the exhibition gallery is the triptych O Quarto de Fernando Pessoa (Fernando Pessoa's Bedroom) by Manuel Amado. An architect by training, Amado is a visual artist whose practice developed primarily within the realm of painting.
Art historian Mariana Pinto dos Santos provides the accompanying essay for the exhibition.
Manuel Amado (Lisbon, 1938–2019) was a Portuguese painter and architect. The son of theater director Fernando Amado, he grew up immersed in the arts and theater. With a degree in Architecture, he left the profession in 1987 to dedicate himself exclusively to painting — a career path strongly marked by the influence of De Chirico, Magritte, and Edward Hopper. His pictorial work, structured in thematic series, explores transitory spaces, cinema, theater, maritime landscapes, and the memory of the houses he lived in.
